Syringe Driver Awareness for Healthcare Assistants

“Offered for the first time in 2026 this 1-hour workshop is designed specifically for Healthcare Assistants supporting people receiving palliative care.

As a Healthcare Assistant, you play a vital role in supporting people who are using a syringe driver. This course is designed to help you understand what syringe drivers are, why they’re used, and how you can provide safe, compassionate care to those who have one.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain what a syringe driver is and why it is used to give medicine to people who are unwell
  • Identify and describe the different parts of a syringe driver
  • Reflect on common questions or worries that a resident or their whānau/family might have
  • Explain how to safely care for someone who has a syringe driver in place
  • Recognise what to look for and check when caring for someone with a syringe driver
  • Describe how to respond to common questions or concerns with confidence

Cost: $30.00 per person

IMPORTANT: To attend the workshop each participant needs to complete an online module via HEALTH LEARN (you will need to search for Syringe Driver Awareness for HCA’s)
